Overcoming Imposter Syndrome at Work
Shift from 'What Is' to 'What’s Possible'
Are You Stuck in the Loop of Imposter Syndrome?
If you’ve ever felt like you’re constantly proving yourself but never feeling good enough, you might be trapped in imposter syndrome. It’s that nagging feeling that your success is a fluke, that you’re about to be found out, or that you don’t truly belong in the room.
Many women in leadership struggle with this. They believe anxiety, self-doubt, and imposter syndrome are just part of who they are—something they have to live with. Maybe they’ve been told by a GP that it’s just ‘normal’ stress. Maybe they’ve tried traditional talk therapy or medication, and when it didn’t work, they decided nothing will.
But the truth? Imposter syndrome is not who you are. It’s a pattern. And patterns can be changed.
Why Your Mind Keeps You Stuck in Imposter Syndrome
Your brain is wired to keep you in the familiar—even if the familiar is keeping you stuck in anxiety and self-doubt. This is how imposter syndrome works:
-
You focus on what is—the fear, the self-doubt, the comparison—rather than what’s possible.
-
You’ve accepted self-doubt as truth and made it your identity.
-
You assume you can’t change because nothing has worked before.
-
You don’t believe your achievements are valid or that your opinion holds weight.
Imposter syndrome thrives on old patterns. But here’s the good news: you can break free.
How to Overcome Imposter Syndrome and Rewire Your Mind
1. Recognise the Loop
If you feel stuck in imposter syndrome, your brain is running the same program over and over. Ask yourself:
-
Am I making this my identity? (“I’m just not confident” vs. “I’m experiencing self-doubt”)
-
Am I focusing only on what’s wrong rather than what’s possible?
-
Am I assuming I can’t change because nothing has worked before?
2. Reframe Your Thoughts
Your brain is designed to look for evidence to confirm what you already believe. Instead of reinforcing self-doubt, start shifting your focus:
-
What if I already have everything I need to handle this?
-
What would the most confident version of me do right now?
-
What if success is something I can actually own and enjoy?
3. Step Out of the Imposter Syndrome Cycle
When you’re stuck in self-doubt, you often take on roles in the Drama Triangle:
-
Victim – Feeling powerless, wondering where they’re going wrong, and stuck in a victim mindset. Victims may also avoid taking responsibility for themselves—acknowledging they struggle with anxiety or self-doubt but not taking action to change it.
-
Rescuer – Stepping in to rescue others, often for an emotional kickback or validation. This can also look like using alcohol, food, shopping, or even medication to shift emotional states instead of addressing the root cause.
-
Persecutor – Either feeling persecuted or blaming others. This could be pointing fingers and blaming external circumstances or people instead of taking accountability for their own growth.
Instead, step into the Creator Role. Ask: What do I want to create in my career and life?
This shifts your focus from reacting to fears to actively shaping your success.
4. Strengthen Your Self-Worth at the Nervous System Level
Your nervous system plays a huge role in imposter syndrome. If your body feels unsafe, no amount of affirmations will override it.
That’s why my Imposter Syndrome Treatment goes beyond mindset shifts. Using powerful techniques like subconscious rewiring and emotional regulation, we help you create a lasting transformation from the inside out.
